Hello blogger friends! I'm sorry for being gone for such a long time. I have been very busy juggling my time for family, school, duty and ministry. I am now in my 3rd year as a student nurse and I must say that I'm really enjoying every minute of it. I started having my duty last June 15 and it is actually an overwhelming feeling to be exposed in the clinical area. My first assignment was at the Out Patient Department of De Los Santos Medical Center in Quezon City. I was able to see actual procedures done by the doctors to actual patients. My group mates and I were allowed to interview patients, retrieve their medical records, take vital signs and assist in treatments, when needed. I was able perform the Leopold's maneuver to pregnant women, compute for the age of gestation (AOG), compute for the estimated time of delivery (EDC), administer contraceptive vaccines, assist in pap smear and other pre natal care, get anthropometric measurements of pediatric patients and make a nursing care plan for our patients. Our clinical instructor, Ma'am Martinez, taught us the proper way of assessing patients and how to come up with the right nursing interventions. The only problem was that De Los Santos is a private hospital so there were limitations for student nurses and we weren't able to practice our independent nursing skills but I believe that my experience there had been a good preparation for my second duty rotation.
I am currently assigned in Concepcion Uno Health Center in Marikina. I've already been there for four weeks and tomorrow will be my last day there. My experience in Marikina is a totally different story because we were allowed to do everything and the health center is a facility where a large number of patients arrive at the same time almost everyday. I hope to get the chance to blog about my learning experiences in Marikina soon and I'll try to bring my camera tomorrow so I could take pictures too and post them here.
